Also known as one of the "hard-faced" cats, the Iranian cat or the Shiraz cat (named after a city in Iran), Persians have long, beautiful fur coats. They can come in almost any color and have a flatter face than other cat breeds. Persians have appeared in many movies, artwork, and advertisements and have been one of the most popular cat breeds for decades. Their coats require regular brushing, otherwise matting will result. Like many purebreds, they are prone to various diseases, including kidney and heart disease.
